Gabby Luety looks to make a big impact on Villanova in her first season as a Wildcat assistant coach.
Luety arrives at Villanova after spending the last three seasons at Fordham University as part of Orchard’s coaching staff. During her three years on the Fordham staff, she helped the Rams to three Atlantic 10 Conference championships, three regular season conference titles and three straight trips to the NCAA Tournament.
She also was instrumental in mentoring 12 NFCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region honorees, 10 All-Conference selections, seven ECAC All-Stars, two Atlantic 10 Rookies of the Year, one Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and one Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Year. During the 2017 season, Luety was a member of Fordham’s Regional Coaching Staff of the Year.
“I am excited to have Gabby join us at Villanova. She has tremendous passion, dedication and knowledge of the game. She knows what it takes to win and is a fierce competitor,” said Orchard. “Gabby had a record breaking playing career at Fordham and joined our coaching staff three years ago winning conference championships in all of her coaching seasons. We can’t wait to have her join the Nova Nation.”
As a player, Luety was a standout at Fordham where she was a four-year starting catcher who helped the Rams to three Atlantic 10 titles and three berths in the NCAA Tournament. As a senior in 2014, she garnered first team All-Atlantic 10 accolades, in addition to earning spot on the Atlantic 10 All-Tournament Team. Other career accomplishments include 2013 NFCA All-Region first team, 2013 second team All-Atlantic 10 and 2011 Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team distinction.
Luety graduated from Fordham in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.
